Trieste

The deep-diving bathyscaphe Trieste, designed by Auguste Piccard, was launched in 1953. In 1960 with a crew of two, she reached a record depth of nearly 11 km in the Challenger Deep (Mariana Trench near Japan), the deepest known point in the oceans.
